Ok ok... I know that is a loaded comparison. We can compare just about any hobbies to drug use. I mean most would say that hey I got this hobby I like to smoke crack. I used to play Wow man so I know where you are coming from. I feel you.
The reason I zoom in on the "Hard Core" is because some times to see the negative side of something you might have to look at the extreme sides of things.
So lets break it down. What is the hardest drug? Crack, Heroin, Crystal Meth, .... I say it is The World of Warcraft. Stay with me here. Would the world be better off if Marijuana was legal or would we be better off if World of Warcraft was illegal? Hey but wait it is America and as an American Bankrupted by the medical system I say If they are equally bad for us let us decide.
Does anyone playing WoW hurt anyone else? Maybe not in your world. The only one effected but the behaviors of Hard core Drug users are themselves and their families. But wait if the real world was a better place wouldn't those same people not need to escape into alternate realities to avoid the "real world"...you think..
Here is lies the lure of the "World of Warcraft". Try telling everyone you know you chase the dragon. You might not want to tell them you play WoW but that is for different reasons or is it? We call people that do crack, CrackHeads. You know their is a site dedicated to WoW called WoWhead, nice.
Oh I was their. I am Beefagny the Paladin, I am more talk than bite. I fly my dragon mount over Outland. Hey folks type /play once. Have you wasted a year of your life away on one game yet? I almost did. Wow. The name fits great. This game is very addictive. During loading screens it suggests taking breaks from wow. Hey I cook dinner, I wasn't playing, the kids were farming gold for me.
Don't get me wrong some can handle their Wow. But not many avid players play less 30-40 hours a week. It becomes a life within their life no mater what they do. You meet people with a shield in front of you. Is this healthy. Hey some do the same to Halo. Some play Call of Duty. Some collect porn. Some nit, some draw, some read, ... In the end it is just a hobby.
You know their are children in China that play wow all day farming gold to sell lazy American gamers. I got some fake money if you want to buy it. |
